This week we’re shining a spotlight on the most recent addition to Team Key, Matt Humphries, our Senior Consultant.
We asked Matt about his experience since starting his role with Key Consulting, and how his personal skill set and career insights have enhanced delivery for Key.
Q: What drew you to the opportunity of working at Key Consulting?
A: After a lot of self-reflection, I started to question myself about what type of consultant I wanted to be. I discovered that what truly ignites my passion within the consulting sphere is the opportunity to collaborate closely with clients, delving into the specifics of their business operations and pinpointing the ideal candidate for their hiring needs. It’s also satisfying to understand the nuances of a company and role specifics, to the point where I can clearly articulate the opportunity to a candidate and successfully guide them toward a career move. Although rewarding, these types of partnerships are time-consuming. Moving to a high-quality, high-touch, and exclusive search model made perfect sense for me and the close teamwork in the team was very attractive.
Q: What were you doing before joining Team Key?
A: Previous to Key I was working for a larger recruitment company as an HR Specialist recruiter for 6 years. The model was a little more transactional and a faster pace. With Key, I find the contacts and talents need more of my time.
Q: How has your experience within high-level search in the HR and Executive field in Japan and Asian markets prepared you for your role at Key?
A: Japan is a challenging market to recruit in. It continues to be a candidate driven market but at the same time, is often one of the most important markets for global companies considering the market size and revenue potential in Japan. This means there are high expectations of the Japan leadership team hires we are across. Finding tailored solutions on the executive level searches we are driving, that meet clients’ expectations, really suits the approach that Key Consulting takes.
Q: How have you found the role and culture since starting your role?
A: The teamwork has been impressive. The ability to partner with consultants on searches and leverage each other’s networks has been valuable. I think the quality of the service offered by our consultants is something to be proud of. The understanding of both candidate and contact needs is deeper at Key and there is a real passion to deliver a high touch and tailored service.
Q: What are you most looking forward to about your role?
A: I get excited to learn about businesses and likewise, the different strategies candidates must align with the business goals. I look forward to some interesting conversations and seeing our introduced talents accomplish great things. Also, working more Global and APAC level searches will be the ultimate learning point.
Q: What key skills do you possess that make you the ideal addition to the team?
A: I could list some skills, however, to be honest I think an important trait of a recruiter is genuinely caring about the success of clients and candidates. This leads to greater curiosity of company visions, candidate’s strengths and cultural fits. I always try to approach recruiting by each candidate and client-needs first mindset. No search is the same.
